May 7th, 2025: Orange County’s very own Rainbow® Sandals, headquartered in San Clemente, California, has made a generous financial donation of $10,000 to the California State chapter of the Coastal Conservation Association (CCA CAL).

“CCA CAL has very much valued the partnership with Rainbow® Sandals since our inception in 2015,” says Chris Arechaederra, Executive Director for CCA California. “Their annual contribution this year will not only benefit our marine resources in California, but also will allow us to continue to develop future plans towards very important projects in habitat creation and restoration.”

“The Rainbow® Sandals Foundation through this generous donation to CCA will be supporting the overall fishing community through our ongoing relationship with Dana Wharf Sportfishing,” said Jay “Sparky” Longley, owner of Rainbow® Sandals. “Fishing is so important to all coastal communities and we are investing in the future of our oceans and ensuring the joy of sportfishing be preserved for generations to come. Together we can protect our marine resources while nurturing a thriving fishing community.”

Founded by Longley in April 2014, the Rainbow® Sandals Foundation was born from his compassionate nature and his desire to give back to the community. Initially focusing on enhancing educational and athletic opportunities, the foundation partnered with organizations such as the Boys & Girls Clubs of America to support after-school programs. In recent years, the Rainbow® Sandals Foundation has significantly expanded its impact through a variety of initiatives and partnerships. These efforts now encompass educational support, recovery programs, disaster relief, animal welfare, environmental conservation, and community development. Committed to its mission of a better future, the foundation continues to positively impact lives and assist those in need, striving to make a meaningful difference in the world.

As a 501(c)3 organization, CCA CAL relies heavily on contributions from local businesses and companies, along with grassroots fundraising via nine different local chapters spread across Central and Southern California. Recently, companies, charities and non-government organizations (NGOs) are stepping up to help out with special projects, data collection, and other CCA CAL projects.

“In an era where government funding on both the federal and state levels is uncertain, CCA CAL will remain committed to doing the right thing in conserving marine resources and protecting angling access,” says Arechaederra. “Contributions like this one helps fund those missions in a big way.”

In one example, CCA CAL has recently announced its efforts in collecting data from anglers on barred sand bass landings in order to better access stocks of this important recreational species. CCA CAL, the Sportfishing Association of California (SAC), the American Sportfishing Association (ASA) and others had successfully forestalled a summer closure of barred sand bass, as the

California Fish and Game Commission voted instead to reduce the sub-bag limit of fish by 1 per angler for a 3-year period. At the same time, CCA CAL, SAC and ASA agreed to work with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) to help deliver catch data in order to create a better stock  assessment.
