Tournament Report: Hawg Hunters – Gun Lake

Today we hit Gun Lake, overall I’d call it success with the club bringing in a total of 79lbs being brought in today with a couple of the anglers catching multiple species. A big congrats to Matt & Mike for hitting ’em hard today, bringing in 10.31lbs with the added bonus of the 2.96lb big fish that allowed them to collect the Advantage Bait. Zack ended up coming in second with 9.32, his first event put on by us without zeroing, and what a way to break the streak! Zack and Andrew jumped up two spots in the Team of the Year standings from last, pushing Sau & Randy and Kurt & Chuck down to the final slots. Third place was Doug & Bernie, so far they have been leading the TOY points race though Vic & Brandy are not far behind, with only a pound difference if either team stumbles it could make things interesting. As for us we are sitting firmly in 6th overall still.

We started out day off to a bad start with getting into the water late and just not being able to find fish. I ended up breaking the ice with a 14″ squeaker skipping docks with a Snack Daddy Lures Elite Tube, another came on the same setup not long after. We ended our day in Baird’s with Golden Shiner Assassinator spinnerbaits, there we ended up with a 1.25lb largemouth and a 2lb smallmouth.

The next tournament is July 14th on Gull Lake starting at 8PM until 2AM. I am personally looking forward to this event since it is fresh, new, and untested! Should be a great one with some solid smallies being caught!
