Tournament Report: Hawg Hunters – Fine Lake

The water temperature has dropped to 78* which is a far cry from 84* it was during the Tuesday night Fish Finders tournament. Luckily the fish didn’t reposition too much, this allowed us to head straight to a solid spot at 6am with drop shots in hand. By 7am my father had boated the first keeper of the day, a 15″ largemouth that came out 17ft of water. His drop shot setup was rigged with 10lb fluorocarbon and a 3/0 straight shank hook used to Texas rig a “ThereHeIs!” worm in Watermelon. This setup allowed him to quickly grab the first keeper and follow up with a 3lb largemouth in 17ft of water. The next fish was one that threw us for a complete loop and even made us set down our rods and reels. With a sharp tug my father set the hook and yelled for the net, the resulting fish was a sizeable 15lb northern pike on a drop shot rig, a heart stopping incident that’s for sure. Around 10am we landed our third and final fish, this is one that earned us big bass and second place.

A big congrats to John and Steve for winning the event with 11.19lbs and tying us for big fish with a 3.63lb largemouth! We placed second with 8.48 with 3 fish including the 3.63lb largemouth. Third place was Vick and Brandy yet again with 6.48. A big thanks to all of the anglers for competing, it was a tough day out on the water resulting in a few teams getting skunked.
