The Bassmaster northern open on Lake St. Clair September 11-13 had three members of the Bad Poncho Outdoors team participating; two co-anglers and one boater. Tony Mitchell posted the strongest finish for our team by placing 18th. The event proved to be a very tight contest, Mitchell missed the top 12 cut by less then one pound.
Mitchell had boaters both days that were overly familiar with the waters that they fished but with the cooperation between boater and co-angler managed to put together two very respectable bags. Mitchell has a lot of experience on St. Clair and Erie fishing numerous tournaments on those waters over the last 20 years. Both of the pros were smart enough to tap into this knowledge to increase the creel of pro and co alike. Making the best of the resources available is what makes this format so popular. Granted it is usually the co-angler that stands to gain the most from the experience but some of these co-anglers also have a wealth of knowledge on their local waters.
This high placing finish will surely increase Mitchell’s national co-angler ranking. The support from his sponsors has made this possible and they deserve a big thanks. Bad Poncho Outdoors, Stafford Smith inc, MGD commercial Kitchens, Midwest Custom Embroidery and Hawg Hitters Rods have been well represented by his professionalism during all the events he has participated in this season and it’s not over yet.
