Upper Crooked Lake
Water Temp: 63*F
We arrived on the water just after 7am immediately marking fish in deeper water though we headed to check out a few flats, this resulted in a couple keepers here and there but just barely keepers, one of which was a 1.53lb largemouth that had to be massaged to make the 14″ mark. We had one come from skipping a Bruiser Baits Rad Shad in Watermelon Red under a dock, the other came on a Firetiger Cotton Cordell jerkbait quickly twitching it over the edge of a flat that went from 5ft to 20ft. The last keeper of the day came on a G-Finish Blue Shad Zara Spook, this one also just barely measured 14″ but was near the 14″ mark, with the lower temperatures the fish are likely staging just off of the flats, the same cannot be said for some of the pike though.
Near the landing late in the day my father skipped his Rad Shad under a dock, and came back with a 29″ pike, three casts later I hooked up on a 27″ pike that completely engulfed my jerkbait. Ending the day with a fly over from a couple of good pike and a couple of A10s flying overhead we decided it the trip should come to an end so we can mentally prepare for tomorrow’s tournament on Saddle Lake.
