Have you ever wanted to take a step or two back in time to when things were a little simpler? Telling stories around a campfire or wood fired cook stove is something that we all remember but don’t get to do as much as we used to. Whether you just need to get away from the rat race for an hour a day or a week Lucky Keys Duck Camp Fishing Retreat in Elmdale Arkansas can hook you up with the time of your life for a price that won’t break the bank.
At the Duck Camp you won’t find five course meals with linen napkins, what they offer is a little more down to earth. We were greeted by the smell of burning wood from the stove in the cook shack and right away we knew we were in for something special. I was hoping to show my son the kind of fishing trip that my dad took me on when I was young and that is exactly what we got. We stowed our gear in the bunk house and went to the cook shack for breakfast. The bacon and eggs were good but the atmosphere was what really stands out in our minds as special.
Hidden beneath the rustic appearance are all the modern conveniences that we needed to be comfortable. TV, refrigerator, microwave, flushing toilet and hot showers are available along with a decent Wi-Fi connection so we could get some work one when needed. What you get at the Duck Camp that you won’t get at any fancy hotel is a décor that shows off the good memories of those that enjoyed their stay before you. Everywhere you look there are pictures of happy faces holding fish or arms wrapped around friends and family as they made memories here. Lures and mounted fish can be found hanging on every wall each with its own stories to tell. If you ask Lucky he will tell you all about them, though I have to warn you the older the piece the more likely the story is to be slightly exaggerated. It is a fishing camp nothing less than that should be expected. Ask about that big jitterbug hanging by the fish cleaning station it’s a good one!
Though rustic everything was clean and no details were missed as far as guest comfort. Lucky made us feel like family we will be back when we get the chance. The food the conversation and the view were all spectacular. The chili made by Lucky sat on the wood burner all day and it smelled great, and that made it hard to resist. After a very successful fishing trip with Jason Cossey of J and B Guide service we had a fish fry including deep fried mushrooms, potatoes, hushpuppies and perfectly cooked fresh fish. Being a little sick and tired of the city that is just what the doctor ordered.
Lucky has whatever you may need to enjoy your stay cabin rentals, boat rentals and heck he will rent you a fishin pole if the need arises. The on-site bait shop is full service with licenses, live bait and a wide range of other tackle and necessities. You can get daily access or buy a season pass if you prefer. If you find the fishing a little slow just hook up with Jason Cossey for an affordable guided trip on Elmdale or any of the nearby lakes, Jason really put us on fish big time while we were there.
They call him Lucky but my son and I are the ones that feel lucky for having a chance to make some life long memories at the Duck Camp Fishing Retreat in Elmdale Arkansas!!
