The fourth stop for the Michigan BFL is in the books and the books are looking very familiar on the co-angler side with Bad Poncho Outdoors angler Jon Witt winning again this year with another monster bag of smallmouth. Jon also won big bass in both of those events. This an incredibly difficult and rare accomplishment due to all of the variables.
In the last two seasons Jon Witt has really taken his fishing to the next level in the MI BFL series by making the best of every opportunity. Many people say success as a co-angler is all about luck of the draw but there is much more to it than that, being able to adapt to what your boater is doing is paramount if you are to have any consistent success. This ability to adapt is what landed Mr. Witt several top ten finishes and a no. 1 ranking for MI co-anglers by Bass Rankings.com for two years in a row.
This day found Jon in a different boat with a different boater and almost 100 miles from the waters he had fished to secure his win one year earlier. Under these conditions a repeat seemed unlikely if not impossible. Not deterred Jon went into the day with the confidence and the skill required to get it done one more time.
The main difference in Witt’s game is that he hasn’t been just fishing for himself these last two seasons, he is now fishing to represent the sponsors that showed faith in his work ethic; RJ’s Expediting, Heco Inc, Midwest Custom Embrodery and Bad Poncho Outdoors are the main sponsors of this talented angler and we are all proud to have played a part in his success. Granted when we signed Jon up as part of team BPO we would have been completely happy with him just conducting himself in the professional way that we knew he would. The wins and the AOY title were just icing on the cake.
With only one more tournament left in the series Jon is poised to secure his second co-angler of the year title in as many years. Good luck out there buddy!
