About a year or so ago we along with a few other local “directors” were contacted by Michael McCloud of Big Bass Mania. Thankfully many of us didn’t get in too deep because today the Mr. McCloud has been arrested and charged with Theft of Property.
The first tournament was hosted at The Angler’s Lodge and to say the event itself was disastrous. With payouts coming up short and just flat out not running smoothly things were on a downward spiral. The owners over at The Angler’s Lodge weren’t happy to say the least, not only did it tie up some of their money, time, and energy but it also marred their reputation.
JASPER, Texas – The director of an East Texas bass fishing tournament has been charged with theft after cash prizes allegedly were not paid.
Jasper County jail records show 44-year-old Michael Shane McCloud was being held without bond Thursday on a charge of theft of property. Jail records don’t list an attorney for McCloud, whose arrest was announced Wednesday by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
A Jasper County grand jury indicted McCloud in the theft investigation related to the 2012 Big Bass Mania tournament on Lake Sam Rayburn.
Game wardens in Texas arrested McCloud with assistance from Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers. Investigators say McCloud formerly was from the Bryan-College Station area but also lived in Florida. No hometown for him was immediately provided by law officers. – Herald Tribune
